Introduction:

Sadiq Mohseni’s remarkable story has already taken him from the heart of Afghanistan to the safety of Indonesia. Now, we need your support to help him achieve his dream of resettling in Canada. With $10,000 generously donated by Mariam Faine in Australia, we’re well on our way. However, we still need $8,000 to secure Sadiq’s future through Canada’s private sponsorship program. A group of five compassionate Canadians stands ready to sign his application, but we can’t do it without your help.

Sadiq’s Journey:

Sadiq Mohseni’s journey began in 1991 when he was born in Malistan district, Ghazni province, Afghanistan. Despite financial hardships, he worked diligently to support his family. Sadiq’s skills as a tiler and construction worker enabled him to provide for his loved ones. However, his path took an ominous turn when he became a target of the Taliban due to his association with government forces during a conflict.

A Narrow Escape:

In 2014, while traveling to Ghazni City, Sadiq’s life took a terrifying turn. He was detained by the Taliban, accused of aiding the government forces, and faced the threat of torture and death. Miraculously, Sadiq managed to escape during a firefight between the Taliban and the Afghan Armed Forces. Fearing for his life, he fled to Kabul and sought refuge in a hotel.

Journey to Safety:

Sadiq’s elder brother advised him to leave Afghanistan immediately to avoid capture by the Taliban, who had his photograph. With the help of kind hotel employees, he connected with a people smuggler who facilitated his journey. He traveled from Kabul to Tehran, Iran, and then to New Delhi, India, before reaching Malaysia and finally Pekanbaru, Indonesia.

Challenges Faced:

In Indonesia, Sadiq registered with the UNHCR on April 14, 2015. Life there was far from easy. Without the right to work and no means of support, he approached the Manado Immigration Centre for assistance. Subsequently, he was transferred to a detention center in Makassar, where he lived in overcrowded conditions, treated more like a criminal than a refugee. Despite these challenges, Sadiq used his time wisely, learning the English language and staying fit.

The Opportunity Ahead:

Now, Sadiq’s remarkable journey has brought him to the threshold of a new beginning in Canada. He is officially certified as a UNHCR refugee, which makes him eligible for Canada’s private sponsorship program. A group of five compassionate Canadians has volunteered to sponsor him, but we still need $8,000 to complete the process.

Your Support Matters:

We invite you to be a part of this incredible journey. With your donation, no matter the amount, you can help us raise the remaining $8,000 needed to secure Sadiq’s future. Your contribution will directly impact a brave individual’s chance at a safe, promising life in Canada.
